About the Maker

Meet the Maker

Hello! I'm the hands and heart behind Swan River Creations, and I'm so glad you're here.

Rooted in the Rockies

I was born and raised in Northwest Montana, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Rocky Mountains and the endless beauty of wild forests. Now based in northern Idaho, I continue to draw inspiration from this rugged, breathtaking landscape. The mountains, the trees, the wildlife - they're all woven into my pottery, a way to share the natural world that fills my soul with every piece I make.

From Clay to Creation

Every mug, bowl, and cup that leaves my studio is handmade - shaped by my hands on the wheel and fired with care. I love the process of transforming simple clay into something beautiful and functional, something that can become part of your daily rituals and bring a little joy to ordinary moments.

My work is inspired by the world around me: the chickens scratching in the yard, the peonies blooming in summer gardens, the towering pines reaching toward the sky, and the wildlife that roams the mountains I call home. Each piece tells a small story - of nature, of place, of the simple beauty found in everyday life.

The Art of Technique

I use a variety of techniques to bring my pottery to life. Some pieces are handpainted with delicate brushwork, while others showcase the dramatic beauty of black clay combined with wax resist or cutouts. For my mountain-inspired pieces, I apply one of my many custom glazes over the resist, revealing silhouettes of trees and wildlife in striking contrast. Each technique brings its own character and tells its own story.

One-of-a-Kind, Every Time

Because every piece is handmade using these artisan techniques, no two are ever exactly alike. The glazes pool and flow in their own way, the resist patterns create unique variations, and each firing brings its own surprises. These variations aren't imperfections - they're what make handmade pottery special. When you hold one of my pieces, you're holding something truly unique, made with intention and care.

Why I Create

I believe that the objects we use every day matter. A handmade mug can turn your morning coffee into a moment of connection - to the maker, to the natural world, to the beauty of slowing down. My hope is that my pottery brings a little warmth, a little wonder, and a little piece of the northern Idaho and Montana wilderness into your home.
