Wildflowers and the Studio
Wildflowers in our area usually appear along hiking trails and mountain paths.
Years ago I would have spent spring wandering those trails, watching the meadows slowly fill with color after the long Northwest winter.
These days the studio keeps me busy, and most of my time is spent with clay instead of hiking boots.
But I think that’s part of why the Wildflower Meadow mugs began to appear in my work. When winter feels long and the mountains are still covered in snow, bringing flowers into the studio feels like a small way of welcoming spring.
The flowers may begin as botanical transfers, but the feeling behind them comes from the landscapes that have always surrounded my life.
Sometimes the meadow shows up in clay before I ever make it back to the trail!
